Athletics: Joe Thomas aims to rock the Olympics
“I am a full-time committed athlete, but there is only a certain amount of hours you can train,” said Thomas.
“I have always thought you don’t have to look like an athlete 24 hours a day to be a good athlete.
“My look has drawn a lot of attention, especially on Twitter with messages saying they did not think someone who looked like me would be able to run that fast!
“They said I looked more like a rock star and I do spend more time listening to music which is probably my biggest passion.
“I am not that interested in sport which people find strange. My Dad is sports mad and never misses a Pontypridd rugby game and is a huge Manchester United fan.
“But I don’t support a rugby or football team.”
There is no doubting Thomas’ ability, though.
The Cardiff AAC star has been turning heads this winter on the indoor scene with four personal-best times ahead of next month’s World Championships which has thrust him into Olympic contention.
