Joan Reynolds is all too familiar with the devastation and tragic mistakes gang members can cause to families and communities.
Reynolds' son, Jeffrey Lopez, was shot and killed in 1994 by gang members in Las Cruces who claimed to be her son's friends and family.
Reynolds was part of a presentation by the 12th Judicial District Attorney's Gang Task Force Educational Program to third-, fourth- and fifth-graders at Sacramento Elementary School on Wednesday.
Students also watched the video "The Big Lie, Unmasking the Truth Behind Gangs." The video had officials and former gang members talking about how gangs attempt to recruit youngsters into gangs.
In the video, Virginia law enforcement and former gang members said if a person joins a gang there's only three places they can end up prison, the hospital or dead.
Reynolds, a coordinator with the 12th Judicial District Gang Task Force Educational Program, said gang members can be identified by tattoos or self proclaiming
