EDMONTON - And the winner of the award for most popular DVD at the Edmonton Public Library goes to â Up.
The 93 copies of the animated film about a grumpy old man who floats away in his house with a young stowaway aboard were taken out or renewed 3,463 times last year, more than any other movie, book or CD.
But the Swedish trilogy about The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ran a close second, with the 315 copies of the three books circulating a total of 3,374 times.
Thatâs just a small portion of the roughly 13.5 million items checked out of the library in 2011, making it one of the biggest sources of listening, viewing, and reading material in Edmonton.
âIf something is on a bestseller list or made into a movie, people want that and they will come to us for it,â says Louise Reimer, director of library services.
Demand usually goes up for books that win prizes or are made into major motion pictures, such as The Help, which went out through the door 1,387 times in 2011, more than any other single work of adult fiction.
