A new Charles Phan eatery, but don't expect Asian

The San Francisco waterfront has been so good to Charles Phan that he's opening a second restaurant there.
Phan - whose Slanted Door quickly became the anchor tenant of the Ferry Building's 2003 revamp and one of the city's top-grossing restaurants - has inked a lease for a new project, just north of his flagship. It will be the latest restaurant in Phan's portfolio, which also includes Out the Door, Heaven's Dog, Wo Hing General Store and most recently, the Moss Room.
For his next trick, Phan will be taking over a 1,300-square-foot space on Pier 3, right next door to the Plant Cafe . He's bringing along bar manager Erik Adkins , who has been at the Slanted Door and Heaven's Dog for nine years, and architect Olle Lundberg , who has designed all of Phan's places.
But unlike Phan's other restaurants, the still-unnamed Pier 3 project won't take its inspiration from Asia.
This time, he's looking to New Orleans.
