Art-making magic in and around True/False
18.05.12
For 2012, T/F stretches its artsy-fartsy tentacles further and deeper, bringing more amazing visual artists—from near and far—to reinvent venues and transform public spaces.
ALL OVER DOWNTOWN: Building on last year’s success, mud stencils will reappear on Columbia’s streets. With the help of local students and teachers, Jesse Graves and Nicolas Lampert, both from Milwaukee, Wi., will once again be arm-deep in dirt, busy covering the sidewalks with muddy and beautiful images.
BERLIN THEATER: Laura Haynes and her middle-school students from Mexico, Mo., create visions along the horizon with nets that have caught more than dreams.
BLUE NOTE: The classic moviehouse-turned-nightclub descends even further into the briny depths, with local artist Glenn Rice’s glowing sea creatures lurking about. As soon as you enter, be ready to get sucked into the nautical depths by artwork from Lars Van Zandt, local painter and tattoo artist. While upstairs—covered in coral courtesy of local artist Sarah Mercer—bathe in a sea of video donated by the Chicago Film Archives, a nonprofit regional film archive, and resident archivist Anne Wells. Finally, don’t miss St. Louis artist Bob Hartzell’s colorful ocean vistas gracing paper lamps high above the theater.
