Motor City Tattoo Expo this weekend at RenCen hotel

The halls of the Renaissance Center were crawling with birds, flowers and skulls during the 17th annual Motor City Tattoo Expo, being held today and Sunday in the Marriott Hotel.
Artists from all over were picked for the two-day ink fest by Terry (Tramp) Welker, owner of Livonia-based Eternal Tattoo. After years of having the expo held near the airport, Welker said it was time to move to Detroit. Theyve been at the RenCen for eight years.
As the convention grew, we needed more space. I wanted them to see Detroit in a good way, said Welker, as he walked among the 222 artists prepping for clients.
In his 35 years of tattooing, Welker said hes watched the world become fascinated with tattoo as an art form, drawing students of art who look at human skin as a new type of canvas. Some artists were also selling artwork; others were looking for willing canvases for images they had drawn.
