Young Jets wear pink with pride
18.05.12
COOLUM cricket is in the pink, thanks to a fundraising initiative from Under-15 Jets coach John McCulloch.
The coach was so impressed with the McGrath Foundation and Cricket Australia's support of it, he nominated the Coolum team to take part in a fundraising Pink Stumps Day to help provide a nurse for every family affected by breast cancer.
Before he could say "strike me pink" the Coolum team received a pink team kit, valued at more than $500.
The kit included pink McGrath Foundation stumps, wicketkeeper pads, training balls, caps and a kit bag, as well as sew-on badges, temporary tattoos and a McGrath Foundation collection tin to kick-start the fundraising.
Mr McCulloch said his players got right behind the day.
"The kids loved the fact there were pink stumps.
"They loved the fact the wicket keeper was wearing pink pads," he said.
Mr McCulloch said Pink Stumps Day was also a way to show the kids there was more to life than cricket.
