Nate Cauley had completed three years towards a business degree at Michigan
State University when, on his birthday, he put his education on hold and
headed to Delray Beach to address a bigger issue in life: his alcohol
addiction.
Despite a couple of lapses, his parents were optimistic that he was back on
track days before Christmas. He was calling every other day, texting and
emailing friends. He'd moved into a new halfway house in Lantana.
Instead, by Christmas Day the Cauleys, who live in a suburb north of Detroit,
were on the phone not with their son but the Lantana Police Department after
learning he'd been missing from the halfway house since Dec. 23.
On Wednesday, Sue and Pat Cauley stood in front of that department asking for
the public's help find the 23-year-old who has not been seen nor heard from
since that weekend.
Sue Cauley pushed back tears as she described speaking to him the night before
he disappeared.
"It was a good conversation. He was in a good mood. He was riding a bus
back to the halfway house, joking about what he was doing that day,"
Cauley said. She texted him Friday morning. Nate texted back.
