The windows of the Danforth Gallery in Livingston are blocked out this week, lending an air of mystery to the space for passersby.
The coverings are in preparation for a special members-only preview of the gallery’s latest photography exhibit, “Tattoo You: Art on Skin,” which opens Friday. The event is the annual membership drive that opens the gallery’s season.
A couple years ago, the Danforth Gallery had a Valentine’s Day opening that included artists painting on live nude models, but the gallery show didn’t focus on a similar art.
This year, the whole thing is a celebration of body decoration.
Sarah Homans, Danforth gallery director, said the event works in a town like Livingston, and she isn’t expecting much flack.
“This community in particular is perceptive and easygoing about eccentric events,” she said, explaining that no one blinked an eye the last time the gallery showcased nude models. “But, you know, ask me next Monday.”
