Raw take on Larsson novel

Edgy and punk and — oh, all the body piercings! — "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" delivers all the grit that will fit.
David Fincher stamped and approved, the film is a moody, raw, atmospheric take on the Stieg Larsson novel, whose fringe-of-society rebel main character, Lisbeth Salander, drives the story. She certainly gets her due from a gutsy performance by Rooney Mara.
Mara, piercings, tattoos and punk hair in tow, lives and breathes the in-your-face rebelliousness of this character. At the same time, she shows a vulnerability that has made Salander, a ward of the state who also reads physics and math books just for fun, one of the most intriguing female characters in pop culture in some time.
No doubt this is Mara's film, not to say the rest of the actors aren't in the game.
The cast is an embarrassment of riches, from Daniel Craig as a fallen journalist, to Christopher Plummer, who adds class to any film.
The plot follows Mikael Blomkvist, a financial journalist in the midst of court trials over stories he has written on Hans-Erik Wennerstrom. Wennerstrom is a powerful businessman who claims the reporter's articles are inaccurate and irresponsible and wants to bring not only Blomkvist down but the magazine he works for, Millennium.
