LANCASTER -- The Pink Cricket restaurant is not closing.
That's the word from Paul Hoch Jr., who owns the restaurant with his father.
"Rumors that we were closing started a couple weeks ago," Hoch said. "I don't know where they started. Maybe people are getting us confused with Billy Crickets, which did close. Maybe they're just getting their facts messed up. But this has been tough."
The restaurant, 929 E. Main St., has been a local institution for 70 years, Hoch said. He said it has been at its current location since 1965 and he and his father have owned it for the past 11 years.
Hoch is trying to dispel the rumor as quickly as possible to minimize the damage it could cause.
"I know 80 percent of our customers personally," he said. "I know when they usually come in and I usually know what they're going to order. So they know we're not closing. But I'm also trying to attract new people in town, too, and those who have only tried us once. If they think we're closing, they might go someplace else."
