Some Americans wear their passion for professional sports on their sleeves.
But to commemorate the teams of his favorite sport, Major League Baseball, Benjamin Christensen has taken it a step further.
Last May, the 29-year-old University of Oregon journalism senior enlisted the help of a local tattoo artist to convey his love of the game. Thirty-six hours and $4,000 later, Christensen bore a pair of tattoos depicting the mascot or logo of every single big-league baseball team.
Specifically, Christensen had the right side of his body adorned with color illustrations of the 14 American League teams and his entire left side with 16 images representing each National League team.
Together, the tattoos form a jumbled collage of the American baseball legacy, with no particular hierarchy for Christensen’s most-loved and most-hated teams. Originally, Christensen had a decidedly different design in mind, planning to illustrate his favorite team, the Oakland Athletics violently running down the mascots of some of his least favorite teams, such as the New York Mets.
