Body artists seek tighter restrictions in Davis
22.05.12
CLEARFIELD -- About one-third of Davis County body art business owners are requesting that the Davis Board of Health tighten restrictions on its industry to eliminate those operating below professional standards.
The health board, which discussed the request at its Tuesday public meeting, will revisit the issue at its 7 a.m. May 8 meeting, to be held at Davis County Health Department, 22 S. State St., Clearfield.
"(The county's health regulations) have been lacking from the beginning," said Jared Preslar, owner of Lucky Bamboo Tattoo in Layton.
Preslar said he is concerned that, because tattooing has become so mainstream across the country, Chinese companies are willing to sell body art application equipment to anyone, regardless of their professionalism.
Preslar wants the health board to require licenses for body art applicators.
"There is nothing (in the health regulations) saying you have to have any special type of training (in applying body art). Kind of scary," he said.
