A woman was remanded in custody on Thursday charged with the murder of a 13-year-old girl who was stabbed in a Doncaster park.
Hannah Bonser, 26, made a brief appearance at Doncaster Magistrates' Court over what police have called a "random, isolated attack" on Casey-Lyanne Kearney, 13, as the teenager walked to meet a friend.
Relatives of the victim listened in the public gallery, some sobbing, as the details of the case were outlined. Bonser, who has brown hair and a tattoo, nodded to confirm her name and date of birth and gave her address.
She listened as the murder charge was put to her, plus and a separate charge of possessing two knives. Bonser will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on February 23.
The Times reported that she was known to social services agencies.
Kearney was found lying in Elmfield Park in Doncaster on Tuesday afternoon. She had managed to call 999 and a passer-by also called emergency services, but the girl died in hospital later that day.
