In Darkness Rating 4 14A
Polish director Agnieszka Holland brings us the true story of a group of Second-World-War Jews who avoided detection by the Nazis by hiding out in the sewers under the Polish City of Lvov, now part of Ukraine. It has been nominated for a best foreign language film Oscar. The strength of In Darkness lies in how slowly and yet inexorably the sewer worker's convictions turn. Pink Ribbons, Inc. Rating 4 Out of 5 G
Lea Pool's documentary is an exposé of the links between corporations - some of which make products that could actually add to the risks of cancer - and the culture of Pink Ribbons that has taken over the public face of cancer research. The film substitutes anger for the warm and fuzzy comfort of pink. (Jay Stone) ByTowne Cinema, through Feb. 23
