Indelible reminder of a growing trend

But is there still an issue with tattoos in 2012?
To find out I spoke to some of Barrow’s leading tattoo artists, fans of tattoos and those who aren’t convinced by the body art.
I found that tattoos are becoming increasingly mainstream, and Barrow is following this trend.
But despite this once underground art becoming more accepted, there are still those with a strong disposition against it.
Visiting Redneck Tattoos, Church Street, you hear a buzz of activity.
Co-owner Mark Lyon dons a large pair of dungarees with his shop’s name emblazoned across the front.
He is covered in artwork, including a prominent lightning bolt on his head. He said he gets a lot of negative feedback from people, not just unkind words, but strange looks from people who cross the street with their children.
His wife Carol is also heavily tattooed and she has the opposite reaction from strangers, who are mesmerised by her body art and treat her like a celebrity.
