Warning issued against home-based tattooing
23.05.12
The Middlesex London Health Unit is alerting people to the potential health risks associated with home-based tattooing.
Infractions included improper cleaning, disinfection and sterilization processes.
Ray McDonald of Johnny Ray’s Tattoo Company in Strathroy said that he would discourage someone from getting a tattoo at an unlicensed business because of the risks surrounding sterilization.
In his shop, located on Front Street East in downtown Strathroy, McDonald follows strict regulations set by the health unit. Everything from needles to stencils are single use, and disposed of in safe containers that are part of an exchange program with Shopper’s Drug Mart. Strict rules are followed on what type of alcohol and bleach can be used for the floors, all spelled out clearly on a chart McDonald keeps handy.
McDonald said that people have to take their health into consideration when offered what might seem like a good deal on a tattoo.
