Ink: Talking about tattoos with young people
23.05.12
My best friend is in the middle of a painful process. She is having a rose tattoo removed from her ankle with laser treatments.
The story she shares is that she and her high school girlfriends all decided to go get tattoos together once they were 18. She volunteered to go first and by the time she was done they had changed their minds and decided not to get their tattoos.
Needless to say, she was not happy about the situation. Fast forward, one husband, three children and almost 20 years later, and she doesn't want that rose on her ankle anymore.
As the years have passed, a tattoo (also called ink) has become a common procedure for many young people. At a February 2010 Pew Research Center Conference, analysts and outside experts talked about the Millennial generation. During the discussion, it was shown that 38 percent of the millennial generation has a tattoo, and for most, one is not enough. Fifty percent of those with tattoos have two to five tattoos, with 18 percent having six or more tattoos. Millennials are defined as those being born between 1980 and 2000.
