Bristol takes cardiac health to heart

“I have Type I diabetes and I’ve been taking insulin since I was
10 years old, so I’m pretty much screwed,” said Wilson, 36.
But the Bristol tattoo artist doesn’t fret; instead he’s
proactive in getting the community educated and aware of what can
be done about heart disease.
Bristol’s business district has his back and is going “red” on
Friday.
Mill Street business owners will wear red to commemorate
February as American Heart Month in conjunction with “Go Red for
Women.” Both are national campaigns organized by the American Heart
Association.
“Nobody is really aware of heart disease,” Wilson said. “Nobody
thinks about it until someone they know goes through it or they go
through it themselves. (Awareness and education of heart disease)
is not in your face like cancer.”
But heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and
women in the United States, according to U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services. More women die of heart disease than all forms
of cancer combined, according to the heart association.
