Getting older, but feeling pains of youth
23.05.12
Since pre-adolescence I've dealt with tonsil issues. My brother was
the favorite, so he got to have his out at the right time. Me? I
got antibiotics, a fever reducer and sent on my way. He broke his
collar bone and got to spend days in the hospital watching Bonanza;
I broke mine and was sent home after having a plaster cast slapped
on.
I couldn't even sleep with my favorite doll. I mean, what's up with
that?
Now, as I'm dealing with wrinkles in areas I didn't even know
existed and general gravity related skin adjustments, I have to
have my tonsils out and tubes put in my ears. Two - count them -
two childhood related issues.
What are tonsils for anyway? Clumps of tissue on both sides of the
throat that help fight infections. In my case, they failed to do
their job. I've been getting infections for years.
To add insult to injury, they are considered vestigial organs -
something not even really necessary on the evolutionary improvement
ladder. To further compound the embarrassment, I have to have tubes
put in my ears like small children get. I was cautioned about
swimming. I won't even get my face wet in the shower, so swimming
is definitely not a problem. T&T - tonsils and tubes. So not
fair.
