How good is Japanese tattoo ink?

I usually stick with the American stuff, but I heard the Japanese make really good ink. To anyone who has used it, how good is Kuro Sumi? Ichiban Sumi? And I know to stay away from that Chinese sh*t, don't gotta tell me.
You have got to be kidding

Eric,

I'm gathering you're a licensed and professional tattoo artist (I'm not having a dig at you in any way, but I don't want to advise someone who doesn't know what they're doing) I hope you understand that :)

'NY Ink' 'Living the Dream' recap: Ami shows his sensitive side

Continued Thursday night on TLC, channel 52 in Queens, with "Living the Dream," and with Billy back at work, Ami planned a surprise for his friend.

Everyone was happy to see Billy back, but Tommy rightfully worried about what would happen if Ami learned he hung out with Chris. When Tommy suggested Ami do something for Billy, Ami went beyond what anyone expected and flew his wife and daughter out for a visit.

This being Ami, he also decided to have a little fun and told Billy he had a big client coming in a few minutes before they showed up. Billy knew something was up and was obviously shocked when he saw his family standing there. Everyone was affected by the family reunion, despite protests they must be chopping onions next door.

Jessica's desire to be a tattoo artist continued, but it turned out she was tattooing out of her apartment. She showed off her work to Tommy, Luke, and Lee, and they all saw obvious signs of an amateur and warned her that Ami could fire her if he found out and it could reflect poorly on the shop. She didn't care and was determined to take the test to get her license.
