My sister is going into the Navy bootcamp and has a tattoo that says brave in chinese on the back of her neck?

I am really nervous becuase i am 17 and she is my (very close) 21 year old sister. She dropped the bomb on us today that she wanted to join the navy and go to the 8 week boot camp. She does have a tattoo of a chinese symbol which means brave on the back

Sitting in a kitchen in Concord, N.H., recently, I listened to a mother-daughter battle that was at once timely and timeless. When I was a teenager in the mid-'90s, the argument probably would've been about a navel ring or a tattoo (likely meaning "Forever" or something in Chinese or Italian). But this fight started when a friend of mine — who is pushing 40 and no stranger to tattoos or piercings herself — learned that her daughter's jumbo "earrings" were actually plugs stretching her earlobes. As the kid's former babysitter-turned-quasi-big-sister, I've tried be supportive through the lip piercing, the cheetah-spotted faux-hawk and even the eyeliner-drawn tears. But on this day, she said something that actually concerned me. In that adolescent know-it-all voice she does so well, the same kid who once said she might like to join the military told us she could just remove the plugs and her lobes would shrink back to normal. But could it really be that simple?
