There's no shortage of artistic talent among area high schoolers, as can be seen in the fifth annual Artist of the Month: Art for All Seasons Student Exhibit that will debut during First Friday at the Scranton Times Building.
In conjunction with the monthly downtown art walk, the lobby of the newspaper's headquarters at 149 Penn Ave. will host an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday with light refreshments served.
The display will feature 83 works of art submitted by ninth- through 12-graders from 16 area school districts. Twenty-two local art teachers from schools throughout the Lackawanna Valley and as far away as Susquehanna Community Junior-Senior High School near the New York border and Wallenpaupack Area High School in Hawley participated.
Making it happen
Art for All Seasons is an art competition sponsored by The Times-Tribune and Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit. Art teachers prejudge entries by their students and submit one piece representing each season of the year to a jury of professionals, including Lifestyles editor Faith Golay and assistant editor Kristin O'Malley, library manager Brian Fulton and graphic artist Kevin O'Neill of The Times-Tribune, and Dr. Catherine Richmond-Cullen and Jessica Gilhooley from NEIU.
