First Friday: "Storm Fronts"
06.10.11
The three men peer out from a boat, surrounded not by sandy shores and a gleaming lake but instead by the murky floodwaters spilling into the Scranton buildings around them.
It is an image that recurs when storms pummel Northeast Pennsylvania. The people, fashions and locations change, but the essence - the power of nature and its aftermath - remains the same.
This Friday, The Times-Tribune will display those images and more in its First Friday exhibit, "Storm Fronts." Featuring more than 40 photographs and 11 front pages from The Scranton Times and The Times-Tribune created during the last 100-plus years, the exhibit will remain on display through November in the Times' lobby.
"We tried to pick some of the better photos that really showed the destruction but also the people of Northeast Pennsylvania," said Times-Tribune library manager Brian Fulton, who organized the exhibit along with Lifestyles Editor Faith Golay and the Lifestyles department.
